Who is Tim Cartmell?
Tim started martial arts with Kung Fu San Soo when he was 11 years old. He studied for years until he moved to Taiwan in 1984, where he began to study 'internal styles.debout et en fuite In Taiwan he put his training to use as a middleweight in full contact tournaments as a way to develop his capacity to relax under pressure.
On returning to the US Tim started to study BJJ with Cleber Luciano. He took first place IBJJF in 2003 as a brown belt, and as a black belt in 2004. Tim has been graded 3rd dan since then. These days he is a respected amateur fighter and and professional coach across the United states, but especially in the LA area.
Tim's work is based on "Effortless Combat throws" - an approach well suited to practitioners of all levels and styles. It works with simple but specific body use principles. He is especially clear on how to enter and position for throws and takedowns, how to follow up on the ground - or how to get up from the ground and create distance.
Very few people combine the experience comparing and combining Chinese internal martial arts (which he studied for for more than 12 years in Taiwan and China) with BJJ and MMA. But it's not only his experience that makes Tim worth the investment to train with, it is his enthusiasm and skill at demystifying esoteric ideas so you can apply them rapidly.
